Privacy Policy

Last updated: [DATE] · Version 0.1 (draft) · Canada — Carpooling

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Kamride (operated by BetfienInc) collects, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. It applies to our website and mobile applications when used for carpooling in Canada. By using the Service you consent to the practices described here, except where consent is not a lawful basis or where you withdraw it (Section 7).

2. Information We Collect

You provide directly

  • Account / registration: legal first and last name, age, gender, email, phone number, profile photo, and self-description.
  • Driver details: driver’s licence information and vehicle details.
  • Trip and booking data: origins, destinations, dates, seats, preferences.
  • Communications: messages exchanged with other Members and with our support team, and reviews/ratings you post.

Collected automatically

  • Usage & device data: IP address, device and app identifiers, app interactions, and analytics used to administer and improve the Service and detect fraud.
  • Location data: with your permission, for publishing/finding Trips, matching, and (where offered) trip tracking for safety.
  • Cookies and similar technologies on our website (Section 9).

Collected through third parties

  • Identity verification: our verification provider ([e.g., Persona / Didit / equivalent]) may process a government ID and a photo/selfie (which may include biometric facial-match data) for verification only.
  • Payment processing: our processor (Stripe) handles card data. Kamride does not store your full card number.
  • Social login (if enabled): basic profile data from the provider you choose.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Create and manage your account and verify your identity;
  • Match Drivers and Passengers and facilitate Bookings;
  • Process payments, Contributions, payouts, and refunds, and prevent fraud;
  • Enable communication between Members for a confirmed Trip;
  • Provide customer support and resolve disputes;
  • Maintain the safety, security, and integrity of the Service;
  • Send service messages (which you cannot opt out of) and, with consent where required, marketing messages (which you can opt out of);
  • Analyze usage to improve the Service;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. How We Share Information

We share personal information only as needed to run the Service:

  • With other Members: limited profile information to facilitate a Trip. Your phone number and precise contact details are shared only after a Booking is confirmed, with the Members travelling together, for coordination and safety.
  • With our payment processor (Stripe): to process payments and payouts securely.
  • With our identity-verification provider: to confirm identity, as above.
  • With service providers: hosting, analytics, communications, and customer support partners acting on our instructions under confidentiality obligations.
  • With courts, law enforcement, or government authorities: when required by law, or where reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, investigate fraud or crime, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Kamride, our Members, or the public.
  • In a corporate transaction: if Kamride/BetfienInc is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this Policy.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. International Transfers

Some service providers (e.g., hosting, payment, verification) may process data outside your province or outside Canada. Where that happens, the information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, and we take the steps required by Canadian law (PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25) to protect it.

6. Data Retention

  • We keep account information while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, meet legal/tax/accounting obligations, and resolve disputes.
  • Identity-verification / biometric data is retained only as long as necessary for verification and then deleted in accordance with the provider’s policy (e.g., deleted within [six months] of verification).
  • Location data from completed Trips is anonymized or deleted after a configurable retention period.
  • On account closure, we deactivate and then delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, except data we must retain by law.

7. Your Rights & Choices

Subject to applicable law (PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25), you may:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Delete your account and associated personal information;
  • Withdraw consent or object to / limit certain processing (this may limit the Service);
  • Port certain information (data portability), where applicable;
  • Opt out of marketing via the unsubscribe link or your settings — you cannot opt out of essential service messages;
  • Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information (CAI).

To exercise these rights, contact [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

8. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and monitoring — to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; you are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.

9. Cookies & Similar Technologies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure usage, and improve the Service. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children. Accounts require Members to be 18 or older. A minor under 14 may travel only when accompanied by a responsible adult Member (see the Terms of Service). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version and, for material changes, notify Members (for example by email or in-app notice). The “Last updated” date reflects the latest revision.
